President and PM mourn the loss of lives in Turkey-Syria earthquake

Dhaka, February 7: President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed grief over the death of many people in the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria. In separate condolence messages on Monday, the President and the Prime Minister prayed for the bereavement of the souls of the victims and expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

The President said that the government and people of Bangladesh are standing by Turkey and Syria during this crisis. The President also wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the earthquake.

In another condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep grief over the loss of many lives in the terrible earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. He sought forgiveness for the souls of the deceased and expressed his deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased.

The Prime Minister said that the government and people of Bangladesh are standing by Turkey and Syria during this crisis. He assured all kind of cooperation from his government. The Prime Minister wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck the southern part of Turkey and the northern part of Syria in the early hours of Monday. It has been reported that 4,300 people have lost their lives so far. Among them, 2,921 people died in Turkey.

Anadolu Agency, citing Turkey's disaster management authority, said the death toll has risen to 2,921. Another 15,834 people were injured. With this, the total number of dead in Syria and Turkey stood at 4,300 people.

Turkey's state media Anadolu Agency reported that a woman was rescued 22 hours after the earthquake struck the southeastern province of Sanliurfa.

The earthquake struck early Monday morning when people were sleeping. About 2,000 buildings have collapsed. Many people are still trapped in the rubble. It is feared that the number of casualties may increase.
