President and Prime Minister pay tribute to language martyrs on International Mother Language Day

Dhaka, February 21: President Mohammad Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid deep respects to the martyrs of the great language movement on the occasion of Amar Ekushe February and International Mother Language Day.

The Head of State and the Head of the Government paid tribute by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at 12:01 midnight today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached the premises of Shaheed Minar seven minutes before the clock struck 12 midnight and President Shahabuddin reached the central Shaheed Minar three minutes before 12 midnight.

The President and the Prime Minister together went to the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar while Amar Ekush's historical immortal song 'Amar Bhai'er Rangano Ekushe February' was played.

President Shahabuddin laid the first wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar.

Prime Minister laid wreath at Shaheed Minar immediately after the President.

They stood in silence for a while paying deep respect to the memory of the language martyrs.

The Speaker, Ministers, Advisors to the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament, Chiefs of the three armed forces, senior leaders of Awami League, freedom fighters, foreign diplomats and high-ranking civil and military officials were present on the occasion.

Later, Awami League president Sheikh Hasina along with cabinet members and senior leaders of the party placed another wreath at Shaheed Minar on behalf of the party.

Prime Minister at Shaheed Minar

On Wednesday, February 21, 2023, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina along with the party's senior leaders placed another wreath at Shaheed Minar on behalf of the party.

Later, Speaker of National Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury laid wreath at Central Shaheed Minar.

Earlier, when the President reached the Shaheed Minar, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal welcomed him.

Leader of Opposition in National Assembly GM Quader also laid wreath at Shaheed Minar.

After that the heads of three forces, inspector general of police, ambassadors and high commissioners of various countries, heads of various international organizations, RAB, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), war-wounded freedom fighters, heads of Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) laid wreaths at Shaheed Minar.

On this day in 1952, the Shaheed Minar was thrown open to the public when hundreds of people from all walks of life walked barefoot with flowers in their hands and sang 'Amar Bhai's blood-stained Ekushe February' to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of language soldiers.
