Victory Day Parade President Hamid, Prime Minister Hasina attend Victory Day parade
Dhaka, December 17: President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina participated and witnessed the parade held at the National Parade Ground on the occasion of Victory Day on Friday. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces President took the salute and visited the parade on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the victory of Bangladesh. The 9th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army organized and conducted the parade under the supervision of the Armed Forces Department under the guidance of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
President Hamid visited the parade in an open jeep and took salute. He was accompanied by Parade Commander and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 9th Infantry Division and Major General Mohammad Shahinul Haque, Area Commander of Savar. Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Coast Guard, Ansar, Paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) participated in this parade.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with President Hamid exchanged greetings with the contingent commanders participating in the parade before leaving the parade ground. On this occasion, the parade ground was decorated with pictures of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, four national leaders, seven Bir Shreshtas and pictures of various development activities of the government including Padma Bridge and Metrorail. As part of this, the road next to the parade ground is also decorated with various banners and festoons highlighting the spirit of Liberation War and Victory Day.
The Prime Minister accompanied by her daughter Saima Wazed and granddaughter Sama Hossain and invited guests enjoyed the parade of various regiments and contingents of the armed forces, display of weapons, a spectacular fly-past by various helicopters of Army Aviation, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Navy Aviation.
Later, well-armoured cavalry and dog squad teams made their presence known at the parade ground. At the end of the program there was a spectacular aeronautical display. Thousands of people from all walks of life thronged the parade ground and enjoyed the spectacular parade which lasted for over two hours on television and various social media.
Earlier, when the President arrived at the parade ground at around 10:30 am, he was welcomed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque, Members of Parliament and the heads of the three forces and senior officers of the Armed Forces.
