President leaves Dhaka for Germany and the UK

Dhaka, October 29: President Md Abdul Hamid has left Dhaka on a 16-day visit to Germany and the UK for health check-up and eye treatment. A regular Qatar Airways flight (QY 639) carrying the President and his wife Rashida Khanum, along with tour companions, left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 3:20 pm on Friday, BSS said in a report.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Moroccan Ambassador to Bangladesh Majid Halim, British High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dickson, German Ambassador Achim Troster and senior military and civilian officials bid farewell to the President at the airport's VVIP lounge.

The President will undergo a health check-up at a hospital in Germany and an eye test at an eye hospital in London.

The 78-year-old president has been suffering from glaucoma for a long time. He used to get his health checked in London and Germany when he was the Speaker of National Parliament.
