Dhaka, December 19: President Md. Abdul Hamid has urged the judges to keep an eye on the candidates so that they do not have to wander around the premise of the court to get a copy of the case.

At the same time, he urged the judges to do more to control the number of ongoing cases. The President made the call in a video message at the Supreme Court Auditorium on Friday (December 16) on the occasion of Supreme Court Day.

Abdul Hamid said, "Article 27 of the constitution states that 'all citizens are equal before the law and are entitled to equal protection of the law.' So remember, a justice seeker has the right to get justice. And it is our responsibility and duty to ensure that right of the citizen."

"There is no question of kindness or favor here. Judges, lawyers and all those responsible for the country, the people and the constitution will ensure the rule of law and justice through the application of their talents and thinking - this is the expectation of all on Supreme Court Day."

President Hamid said, "As a lawyer, I know how difficult and complicated the judiciary is. How much work a judge has to do in conducting judicial proceedings. But even then, I would say that the judges have to do more to control the rate at which cases are increasing day by day."

He said the government strongly believes in the independence of the judiciary and is committed to ensuring professional facilities for judges. But the judges should take care that the candidates do not have to roam the court porch day after day to get a copy of the verdict after the verdict of the case.

Expecting the sincere and honest support of lawyers to ensure speedy justice, the President said, “Lawyers are an essential part of the justice system. Judicial work cannot proceed without the help of lawyers. Just as the country's eminent lawyers have made significant contributions to the drafting of our constitution, the lawyers have responded to the court's call whenever necessary and helped the court to make important decisions with their views as amicus curiae."

Law Minister Anisul Haque addressed the function as a special guest under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

Also present were Justice Mirza Hossain Haider of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Attorney General and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association AM Amin Uddin, and General Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal.
