President reaches Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj

Dhaka, June 24: President Muhammad Shahabuddin arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on a 10-day visit as a royal guest to perform the Holy Hajj.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines VVIP flight (Flight No. BG331) landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KIA), also known as Jeddah International Airport, with the President, his wife Dr. Rebecca Sultana and entourage on Friday, June 23 around 6 pm local time.

On arrival at Jeddah Airport, President Shahabuddin was welcomed by Mecca Region Deputy Governor Prince Badr bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, Bangladesh Ambassador to KSA Dr Mohammad Javed Patwari and embassy officials. The VVIP delegation was then taken to the residence at the Safa Royal Palace in Holy Mecca as royal guests. From there the President and his wife and other members of the entourage are scheduled to perform Hajj.

Apart from the President's family members, Prime Minister's Private and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman, Secretary of Bangabhaban and related important senior officials are also present. The President inquired about the pilgrims and their accompanying party members in the Hajj caravan.

Earlier, the Head of State left for Saudi Arabia from Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Domestic Airport (Hisa) around 2:30 PM. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Dean of Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh, Chief of Navy, Chief of Air Force, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Foreign Secretary, Secretary of Public Security Department of Home Ministry, Army Chief's representative and concerned civil and military senior officials are VVIPs of the airport. Say goodbye to him in the lounge.

After completing all the procedures of Hajj, President Shahabuddin will go to Medina on July 1 to perform the fast of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). After completing his 10-day visit to Saudi Arabia, the President will leave for Dhaka on July 2 from Madina's Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines VVIP flight.
