Dhaka, January 26: The 22nd presidential election of the country will be held on February 19. On that day, voting will continue from 2 pm to 5 pm in the parliamentary chamber of the Jatiya Sangsad.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the election schedule on Wednesday.

He said, according to the schedule, the nomination papers can be submitted at the CEC office till 4 pm on February 12. Scrutiny of nominations will be from 10 am on February 13. Withdrawal till 4 pm on February 14. Polling will be held at Sangsad Bhaban on February 19 from 2 pm to 4 pm. The number of voters in the election is 343.

The second term of President Md. Abdul Hamid is coming to an end on April 24. He has been the president for two consecutive terms. According to the country's constitution, he no longer has the chance to be elected president. That's why someone new will be seen in his place. As per the constitutional obligation, the election of a new president must be completed 60 to 90 days before the current president's term expires.

As per the rules, one does not have to be a Member of Parliament to be a candidate for the post of President. Nominations are made by political parties and the President is elected by the votes of members of Parliament. Article 48(1) of the Constitution states that a citizen of Bangladesh shall be the President, who shall be elected by the members of Parliament according to law.
