Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 8: After the opening of the Padma Bridge, the number of vehicles and passengers crossing the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway was reduced. Many had the idea that because of the Padma Bridge, passengers in the south-west would no longer use the Paturia-Daulatdia water route. However, the picture of Paturia Ghat changed from noon on Thursday (July 7). Hundreds of passengers and vehicles gathered at the ghat ahead of Eid. At around 4 in the afternoon, a huge crowd of passengers was seen on the launch and ferry.

Although the pressure of small cars and motorcycles was high in the morning, the number of long distance buses increased in the afternoon. However, despite the increasing pressure of passengers and vehicles, homebound people had been able to cross the launch-ferry without suffering. Long-distance buses had to wait a maximum of 30 to 40 minutes to reach the ferry.

A trader a the ghat, Abdur Rashid, said that after the opening of the Padma Bridge, there was very small number of vehicles at ghat to take the ferry. But today it is good to see many passengers and vehicles. The empty ghat seems to have woken up again.

BIWTC's Aricha Region DGM Shah Md. Khaled Newaz said the pressure of passengers and vehicles at the ferry ghat has been increasing since Wednesday (July 6). But the pressure was greater on Thursday. In the afternoon, a huge crowd of passengers was seen. However, with the opening of the Padma Bridge, the number of vehicles and passengers crossing this time is much less than in the previous Eids. That is why everyone has been able to cross the ghat without suffering.

He said passengers and vehicles were crossed by 21 ferries throughout the day. There may be pressure of passengers and vehicles at the ferry ghat on Friday as well.
