Dhaka, January 10: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the passengers to follow the rules and guidelines of the metro rail while travelling as it is built using modern technology.

She said, "My request to all the passengers, follow the rules and guidelines of Metro Rail while travelling, it is a modern technology-based train. So, everyone should be careful in using it."

She made this call regarding Metrorail in the regular meeting of the Cabinet held at the Prime Minister's office. She appealed to the passengers to keep the metro rail clean and not to throw any garbage here and there, instead, everyone should use the designated waste area in the train.

She also said that this metro rail has been developed using a digital system. It will continue. So, use it following the rules and guidelines. Everyone should keep this in mind while using it.

Regarding the metro rail project, the chief minister said, "In the feasibility study, the metro rail route was initially laid through Bijoy Sarani, which I strongly objected to. Then we had to close Tejgaon airport which has 9,000 feet long runway. I never wanted an airport to be destroyed."

She also said that when the government designed the planetarium, its dome was supposed to be much higher. We lowered that height. If the height exceeded 60-70 feet, it would fall into the air funnel (of Tejgaon airport).

The Prime Minister also said that she has extended the metro rail route from Bangladesh Bank to Kamalapur station. At that time, it was proposed to demolish the Kamalapur railway station for the Metrorail. She told the officials concerned that it would not be wise to demolish such a big station and build another one.

"I asked them, how can we do this while keeping the station intact, if necessary the metro rail will pass over the station or find another place to take its turn. Now, it is being implemented that way," she added.

Mentioning that the project was halted after the Holey Artisan (Bakery) attack in which seven Japanese consultants involved in the project were killed, she said, "Noting that at that time all the Japanese had returned to their homeland, and she personally expressed her condolences to the then Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, and during her trip to Japan, she met with family members of the seven Japanese officials who were killed in the terrorist attack. Apart from comforting them, her government has done everything that can be done and in view of this, the Japanese government has taken her request into consideration.
