Dhaka, August 5: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the youth to raise the status of the country at the international level and said, "I hope that we can improve the status of Bangladesh by developing our talent and thinking not only in the country but also at the international level. And that's how our children will work."

She said these things in the speech delivered on Friday (August 5) at the celebration of the 73rd birth anniversary of the brave freedom fighter Sheikh Kamal and the awarding ceremony of the Sheikh Kamal National Sports Council Award-2022.

The Prime Minister said, "The freedom fighter Sheikh Kamal has left for us the principles, ideals, methods and directions, our youth will develop themselves by following them on their way. Kamal is not with us today. He has set a precedent for including the younger generation in various sports, from developing the modern football game and the Abahani Krira Chakra."

"Besides, he has done the task of popularizing various native songs on modern instruments by establishing Spandan Shilpo Gosthi in the practice of music. Because Sheikh Kamal was born with versatile talent."

Commemorating the memory Sheikh Kamal, the Prime Minister said, "This practice of his music team was going on on the roof of the house. Many people, including Feroz Sai, Ferdous Wahid and Nasiruddin, used to come there. After returning home six years after the assassination of the Father of the Nation, I turned the house of the Father of the Nation at Dhanmondi number 32 a museum. Later, Feroze Sai donated Kamal's organ, with which he used to sing. I kept that organ and Kamal's sitar there."

"Sheikh Kamal used to get a commission in the army. Since his education in Dhaka University (DU) honors class was not over yet, he left the army and joined DU again to obtain his master's degree. But he was assassinated before the results of the master's were published," she said.

Thanking the Ministry of Youth and Sports for introducing the Sheikh Kamal National Sports Council Award, the Prime Minister said, "As a result, Sheikh Kamal's contribution as a freedom fighter and a sports and cultural personality will be remembered by all. It is my wish that our youth will be more proactive and involve themselves more in sports, cultural practices and social service."
