Bangabazar Victims Prime Minister Hasina gives an Eid gift of Tk 9 crore to Bangabazar victims
Dhaka, April 18: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allocated Tk 9 crore as an Eid gift to the shopkeepers, traders and owners affected by the fire in Bangabazar. The money has already reached their mobile phone. Prime Minister's Chief Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Mia confirmed the information on Tuesday (April 18).
On the morning of April 4, a fire broke out in Bangabazar (Bangabazar Complex, Gulistan Unit, Mahanagar Unit and Adarsh Unit). The fire spread to Anexco Tower Market, Mahanagar Shopping Complex, Banga Islamia Market and Banga Homeo Market near Bangabazar.
In this incident, on the same day, DSCC formed an eight-member investigation committee with Regional Executive Officer Marina Nazneen as the convener and Chief Social Welfare Officer and Akand Mohammad Faisal Uddin as member secretary to prepare the list of victims, investigate the cause of the fire and determine the amount of damage. A week after the incident, the investigation committee submitted its final report to DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas on April 11.
The report mentions detailed information including the list of names of 3 thousand 845 affected traders. It is said that during the fire, the fire spread quickly due to the dry heat of Chaitra and high wind flow. Although there was no loss of life, the four markets and the metropolitan shopping complex of Bangabazar complex made of tin, wood and iron structures owned by DSCC were completely gutted.
Many shops in the seven-story Annexco Tower were burnt, along with many shops in Banga Islamia Super Market and Banga Homeo Complex on the west side of the road.
