Dhaka, November 23: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the concerned to ensure the quality and nutritional quality of the crop without looking at its aroma. He gave this instruction in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). The Prime Minister asked Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak to take necessary steps in this regard.

A meeting was held on Tuesday (November 22) at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sherbangla Nagar. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan highlighted the instructions of the Prime Minister. The government is focusing on Haor and Char areas under the project to strengthen nutrition and food security through agricultural development. Tk 154 crore will be spent under the proposed scheme for enhancing nutrition and food security. Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN) will implement the project.

The project will be implemented from January 2022 to September 2027. The objective of the project is to increase the productivity of specific crops by eight to ten percent considering nutritional quality and food security. Contribute to achieving food and nutrition security by creating safe and nutritious crop villages.

The project will be implemented in 155 upazilas of 49 districts. The average cropping density of the project area will be increased. To achieve food and nutrition security in the project area, expansion of bio-fortified crops, expansion of high value crops, expansion of improved agricultural technology, expansion of varieties/technologies developed from research institutes, safe crop production will increase.

The Prime Minister gave the order while approving the project.

Regarding this order, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that the Prime Minister has asked to grow more crops. She said to ensure the quality and nutritional value of the crop, not the aroma. She said to use technology of other countries to preserve crops. She mentioned the Dutch as necessary for crop preservation.

The Prime Minister said in the ECNEC meeting that the project cannot be taken up by damaging the nature. Projects cannot be taken up by disturbing water, water, canals, small fish, grass, foliage and nature. Moreover, they should not be disturbed. The project period cannot be extended repeatedly.
