Own Correspondent, Dhaka, December 17: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has vowed to use all her strength for the overall welfare of the people of the country with the aim of building a prosperous and non-communal golden Bengal (Sonar Bangla). The Prime Minister administered the oath to the people at a function organized on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the great victory and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The event was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. People from all walks of life up to the grassroots, including the divisional cities of the country, were virtually connected to social media, television and online. Sheikh Rehana, the youngest daughter of Bangabandhu and younger sister of the Prime Minister, was also present on the occasion.

The event was organized by the National Implementation Committee to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Committee chief coordinator Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury conducted the program.

The Prime Minister said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his historic speech on March 7, 1971 called upon the people of Bangladesh to build forts in every house. He asked people to be ready to face the enemy with whatever they have. He directed to form Sangram Parishad in every district, sub-division, thana and village under the leadership of Awami League.

Regarding Bangabandhu's declaration of independence, the Prime Minister said that at midnight on March 25, 1971, the Pakistani aggressors started massacre by attacking Rajarbagh Police Line, Dhaka University and other places. At that time Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence.

She said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib's declaration of independence was also broadcast on radio, television and newspapers in different countries of the world. According to the instructions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib, the Bengalis started fighting the enemy with whatever they had.

"India, Russia and other friendly countries and the people of those countries stood then by our side. We defeated the invading Pakistani forces with the help of allied forces. Our victory was achieved in exchange for the blood of thousands of martyrs."
