The second term of President Md. Abdul Hamid is coming to an end on April 24. He has been the president for two consecutive terms. According to the country's constitution, he no longer has the chance to be elected president. That's why someone new will be seen in his place. According to the constitutional obligation, the election of a new president must be completed between 90 and 60 days before the current president's term expires.

As per the rules, one does not have to be a Member of Parliament to be a candidate for the post of President. Nominations are made by political parties and the President is elected by the votes of members of Parliament. Article 48(1) of the Constitution states, "There shall be a President of Bangladesh, who shall be elected by the Members of Parliament according to law".

Since Awami League is the majority political party in the National Parliament, it is assumed that they will nominate candidates for this position and that candidate will be elected. After all formalities, Awami League nominated candidate will be the 22nd President of the country.
