Prime Minister pays homage to the Father of the Nation's portrait on his birth anniversary

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 17: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina paid homage to his portrait with flowers.

She paid homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban premises at Dhanmondi No. 32 on Thursday (March 17) at 7:30 am.

On this day, first as the Prime Minister and later as the President of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation with the top leaders of the party. Members of the Armed Forces then saluted the Guard of Honour. Afterwards prayers were offered.

Today, March 17, is the 102nd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The day is nationally celebrated as National Children's Day. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on this day in 1920 in Tungipara of Gopalganj subdivision of the then Faridpur district. He was the third of four sisters and two brothers. One day, the boy from Tungipara became the saviour and liberator of the oppressed Bengalis.

Meanwhile, the Awami League has taken up a two-day programme on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birthday and National Children's Day. The programmes of the Awami League on March 17 include hoisting of national and party flags at Bangabandhu Bhaban, the party's central office and all the offices of the organization across the country at 6:30 am, and paying tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Bhaban premises at Dhanmondi No. 32 at 7.30 am.

At 10:30 am, a delegation of the Awami League's central executive parliament paid homage at Bangabandhu's grave in Tungipara and held prayers and milad mahfil.

On this day special prayers were offered in all religious institutions including mosques, temples, pagodas and churches. After this, prayers and milad mahfil were held in all the mosques of the country including Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Prayers were offered at the church at Tejgaon in the capital at 8 am, Mirpur Baptist Church at 9 am, Merul Badda International Buddhist Monastery at 10 am and at Dhakeswari National Temple at 11 am.

The day is being celebrated with due dignity in Bangladesh embassies worldwide. Special prayers have been organized in all the religious institutions and places of worship across the country.
