Dhaka, November 26: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim. In a congratulatory message written to the Prime Minister of Malaysia on Friday, Sheikh Hasina said, "On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, and on my behalf, I extend my sincere congratulations to you for assuming the responsibility of the Prime Minister of Malaysia."

"Your election to this high office is a clear expression of the confidence of the Malaysian people in your visionary leadership, wisdom and long-term sacrifice for your country," a press release from the press wing quoted the prime minister as saying. "Under your exceptional general leadership, Malaysia will continue to prosper."

Sheikh Hasina mentioned that 2022 is a special year for Bangladesh-Malaysia friendship, as both countries are celebrating 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations.

She recalled with gratitude that in 1972, Malaysia was the first Muslim majority country to recognize Bangladesh. Since then the two countries have been enjoying excellent bilateral relations based on common faith, brotherhood and cooperation.

She said both the countries are committed to further strengthen the comprehensive partnership in various fields like human resources, trade, investment, education and tourism.

Sheikh Hasina expressed confidence that under the dynamic leadership of Anwar bin Ibrahim, existing multi-dimensional relations will be strengthened. She said she looks forward to working closely with the new Prime Minister of Malaysia in bilateral, regional and global contexts in the interests of both countries for mutual benefit.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim good health, long life and brotherly Malaysian people happiness, peace, progress and prosperity.
