Dhaka, September 28: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may visit India early next year, in eaither January or February. The tour will be finalised after receiving an official invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this year, according to Indian news outlet The Times of India.

According to the report, Bangladesh is celebrating the golden jubilee of independence this year. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bangladesh in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic to attend the event. Besides, both the countries have decided to celebrate 'Friendship Day' on December 6. On December 6, 1971, India recognized the independence of Bangladesh.

During the visit, issue between the two countries over the distribution of Teesta water could be discussed, the report said. Besides, the two leaders will hold talks on other bilateral issues. Currently, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are both in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly. During the session, they commemorated the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The diplomats of the two countries played an important role in the recognition of the newly independent state to the world community 50 years ago.

According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, the cooperation of the Indian Armed Forces in the war of independence of Bangladesh is well known, but the role that India paid the most attention to at that time was the global recognition of the newly independent state. Indian diplomats greatly cooperated with Bangladesh in this regard.

In the session of the UN General Assembly held on September 27, 1971, the then Foreign Minister of India Sardar Saran Singh highlighted to the world the brutal massacre of Bangladeshis by Pakistani forces. At the same time, he requested Pakistan to release Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was imprisoned in Pakistan during the plenary session. Bangladesh is celebrating the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman this year.

Later, due to the diplomatic efforts of the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, Bangladesh was recognized by the then world powers like United Kingdom, France, Russia and Poland.
