Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 23 September 2023: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that if any attempt is made from abroad to obstruct the upcoming elections, the people of the country will resist it. In a press conference organized by the Bangladesh Mission in New York, Sheikh Hasina said that Awami League will come back to power if the countrymen vote. But the people will not accept any action to thwart the election. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister urged not to listen to the propaganda against the government.

The press conference was held to brief the media about the Prime Minister's visit to New York to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Prime Minister's speech writer Md. Nazrul Islam moderated the press conference.

The Prime Minister said that his party believes in the power of the people as stated in Article 7 of the Constitution. The people of Bangladesh will impose sanctions on those who take the initiative in any action to disrupt the election. Regarding the new visa ban, the Prime Minister said that she hoped that the visa ban would be effective against those trying to disrupt the elections, including the opposition parties.

Sheikh Hasina said, it will be good for the next general election. Because, the BNP alliance will not be able to set any arson with the aim of disrupting the elections like in 2013-14. She expressed hope that the countries which have imposed the visa ban will consider the issue from both sides or neutrally.

The prime minister said, "I have nothing to say if Awami League is targeted. But Awami League did not come to power depending on anyone's power. I came to power with the power of the people and their votes. There is nothing to fear about who will ban or not."

She reminded that if anyone wants to come to power in any other way than election, they have to face crisis. She warned the countrymen against those who seek to seize power illegally through chaos or violation of the country's constitution. She said, there is no more opportunity to seize power illegally.

The head of government also said that there are some people who do not want the welfare of the country. If the expatriates are aware, these self-interested circles will not be able to succeed. To this end, the Prime Minister denied the false propaganda and called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to send remittances to the country through proper means.
