Prime Minister urges countrymen not to build unplanned structures in Cox's Bazar

Dhaka, May 18: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged all not to build unplanned facilities in Cox's Bazar and said her government is implementing various projects to ensure the overall development of Cox's Bazar while preserving its natural beauty and biodiversity.

"Cox's Bazar will be one of the major tourist destinations in the world," she said. "That is why I urge everyone, especially the people of Cox's Bazar, not to build unplanned structures."

The Prime Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed eco-friendly multi-storey building of Cox's Bazar Development Authority here on Wednesday morning. She was virtually involved in a video conference from Ganobhaban organized by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Cox's Bazar Development Authority at the Bir Muktijoddha ground in Cox's Bazar.

Sheikh Hasina said the concerned authorities have already been directed to prepare a master plan to ensure development plan in the vicinity to make Cox's Bazar an international standard tourist destination to attract domestic and foreign tourists.

"We are going to take initiative to make this place attractive to domestic and foreign tourists by further expanding the tourism sector in our vast seas," she said. "Moreover, as it falls on the international air route, the government is working to establish Cox's Bazar Airport as an international standard airport."

She hoped that when the airport was completed, it would become a refueling hub by refueling flights from western countries to the east.

Sheikh Hasina said different countries get priority in refueling at different times. "Once upon a time there was Hong Kong, then Thailand or Singapore and later Dubai. But now Cox's Bazar will be a hub for refueling in the international airspace."

Prime Minister Hasina said that in addition, her government has built a cricket stadium here, as well as a football stadium to organize all kinds of international sports. The Marine Drive from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf will be extended to Chittagong.

The event featured a video on the activities of the Cox's Bazar Development Authority and the newly constructed building.
