On Friday (December 31, 2021) at 7:23 am, the Prime Minister's convoy reached Padma Bridge. The Prime Minister along with her younger sisters and others walked about 2 kilometres from pillar 7 to pillar 18. Later at 10 am, she left the area for Ganabhaban. The Executive Engineer of the Padma Bridge project, Abdul Quader who was with the Prime Minister during her visit to the bridge, said Sheikh Hasina was looking very happy while inspecting the bridge.

The 6.15 km long two-level Padma Bridge will have railway tracks at the bottom and road for vehicles on the top. Chinese contractor, China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited (MBEC), is working on the construction of the main bridge while another Chinese firm, Synohydro Corporation, is doing the river training work. The construction of the bridge is about 95 percent completed and its inauguration is scheduled for June 30 next year.
