Speech Process to remove Tarique Rahman's speech from social media starts
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 29 August 2023: The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has started the work of removing Tarique Rahman's speech from the internet on the orders of the High Court.
On Tuesday, BTRC lawyer Khondkar Reza E Rakib informed the court about this. He said, "On Monday, the High Court ordered the removal of Tarek Rahman's speech from online. We received the lawyer's certificate on Monday. A team of BTRC has started the work of removing Tarek Rahman's speech from online. We hope that it will be possible to remove all Tarek Rahman's speech from online within a few days. We are waiting for the certified copy of the High Court order."
On Monday, the High Court directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to remove all recent statements of BNP Acting Chairman Tarek Rahman from online. The High Court bench of Justice Md. Khasruzzaman and Justice Md. Khairul Alam gave this order.
Meanwhile, Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that if they get a copy of the court's order, they will use their powers to remove the content of BNP Acting Chairman Tarek Rahman's speech from social media. At the same time, the minister also said that the social media will be requested.
He said this in response to questions from reporters after a meeting on online financial fraud and illegal and unverified financial transactions at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The High Court has ordered the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take effective steps to remove all the recent statements of BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman from social media. A thorough discussion has to be done. The court has instructed them, we will use all the powers we have since we received the copy of the court order from our side."
