Dhaka, 23 October 2022: Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has expressed the opinion that it is very important to promote Islam and the Muslim Ummah through the world media and social media.

He said that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its member countries can take multifaceted steps to show the world that peace is the motto of Islam and that Islam does not support terrorism.

The Information Minister expressed his opinion while speaking on behalf of Bangladesh at the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers (ICIM), the twelfth meeting of information ministers of OIC member countries in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday (October 22). OIC Secretary General Hussain Ibrahim and information ministers of member countries spoke under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, with the theme of the twelfth conference being 'Distortion of Information and Mitigation of Islamophobia'.

In front of the OIC, Hasan Mahmud pointed out the example of protection of religious harmony and suppression of militancy in Bangladesh and said that under the leadership of Bangabandhu's privileged daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has adopted a policy of zero tolerance in order to ensure that no one can use religion as a tool for militancy.

He said, "Despite being the most densely populated country in the world, Bangladesh has given temporary shelter to more than 1.1 million Myanmar citizens (Rohingya) for the sake of humanity. The government has been providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas despite the global recession due to the Corona epidemic and the war in Ukraine. Misinformation is often spread about it. But I want to say unequivocally that the only solution is the repatriation of the Rohingyas with full citizenship rights to their own country Myanmar and the sooner it happens, the better for all.'
