Elections | Schedule Public notice regarding nomination papers-schedule issued
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 17 November 2023: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has announced the schedule for the 12th National Assembly elections. According to the schedule, the polling for the national elections will be held on January 7. The Election Commission (EC) has also issued a public notification regarding the polling schedule and nominations. The Election Commission has issued a public notification on Thursday.
In the circular, the EC said that the Returning Officers will announce the schedule in their constituencies as soon as possible and issue public notices in light of the schedule. The said public notice shall mention the schedule announced by the commission. Nomination papers should be called for through the same public notice mentioning the place and time of submission of nomination papers to the Returning Officer-Assistant Returning Officer.
Nomination papers will be accepted during office hours i.e. from 9 AM to 4 PM. It may also be noted that apart from direct submission of nomination papers, nomination papers can also be submitted online within the prescribed date and time. Copies of the public notices should be posted at prominent places in the respective constituencies and arrangements should be made to post copies at the offices of the Assistant Returning Officers.
Meanwhile, the EC has appointed Returning Officers of the District Commissioners to conduct the elections. This information was known from the EC on Thursday. 64 District Commissioners or Deputy Commissioners will serve as Returning Officers and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) will serve as Assistant Returning Officers. A circular has been issued in this regard.
Besides the DCs, EC's own officers also showed interest in performing the duty of Returning Officer. In this case, the demand was made to select officials from the commission and give this responsibility. But in the end the demand was not taken into consideration. Therefore, Desirai is going to perform the duty of Returning Officer in the upcoming national elections.
