Dhaa, July 12: The government's two-week strict lockdown on coronavirus infections ends next Wednesday (July 14). With two more days to go before the end of the ongoing lockdown, the streets in capital Dhaka city is witnessing a surge in traffic congestion.

On Monday (July 12), more vehicles, including rickshaws, motorcycles, private cars, jeeps, microbuses, pickup vans and pedal-powered rickshaws, were seen plying on the main roads of the capital from different parts of the capital. Despite the ban on leaving the house without urgent need, a large number of people were seen moving on the road. Traffic jams are also seen in some places due to the pressure of extra vehicles.

During the first week of the lockdown, checkposts were set up at the intersections of important roads, vehicles were searched, people were taken out of the vehicles and even the police, RAB, BGB and army personnel had to face interrogation.

On Monday, Surajmin visited different areas of the capital and saw more vehicles and public traffic. Most of the people are seen using rickshaws due to the closure of public transport. Talking to the passengers, it is learned that the rickshaw pullers are charging extra fare as there is no opportunity for public transport.

Meanwhile, pathologists and health experts fear the continued rise in corona infections and deaths over the past few days. Yesterday, the highest number of 11,874 corona patients were identified in the country and 230 people died across the country. In this situation, they are commenting that the period of lockdown should be extended to bring the situation under control.

There is a lot of speculation in the minds of the people about whether the government will extend or relax the lockdown period ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha on July 21. Some say that even if the lockdown period is extended, various rules may be relaxed.
