Dhaka, June 16: Earthquake was felt in different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka. The earthquake was felt around 11:15 on Friday. In addition to Dhaka, earthquakes were reported from Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj. According to the website of Meteorological Department, the place of origin of the earthquake was Golapganj in Sylhet. However, the information that was available in various media immediately after the earthquake said that the origin of the earthquake was in Shillong, India.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) website, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5 on the Richter scale. However, Farzana Sultana, assistant meteorologist of the Department of Meteorology, said that an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was felt at 10:46.

After the earthquake, many residents of Dhaka wrote about feeling the tremors on Facebook. However, no damage has been reported anywhere so far. Apart from this, there have been reports of this earthquake being felt in India as well.

Several media reports, including the Indian news agency ANI, said that the earthquake was felt in several parts of northeastern India, including Assam and Meghalaya. Another Indian media outlet Hub News reported that a massive earthquake was felt in Assam's Guwahati and Meghalaya's Shillong on Friday morning. According to the news, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Assam at 10:16 am on Friday.

According to India's National Center for Seismology, an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale was felt at 10:16 a.m. Indian time on Friday. The depth of the earthquake was 70 km below the surface. Before this, an earthquake was felt in Dhaka in the early morning of May 5. The origin of the earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was in Doha, 30 kilometers southeast of the city center of Dhaka. It was also Friday. Before that, on April 25, an earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred in Arai Hazaar Upazila of Narayanganj district.
