Dhaka, January 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said whenever Awami League comes to power, the rate and quality of education in the country increases.

She said, "The present government has given importance to quality improvement of education, research, production, and excellence as well as skill development. At the same time, the government is gradually moving towards an industrialization of the country by maintaining the balance of the environment in a planned way."

Members of the standing committee of the 'Bangladesh University Parishad', comprising the vice-chancellors of public universities, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at Ganabhaban on Thursday. She said these at the time.

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and Deputy Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel were present among others. Later, Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon briefed on the meeting.

Calling on the university teachers to be more responsible and attentive to making students suitable, Sheikh Hasina said, "To fulfill the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, to build a golden Bengal, universities should raise golden boys. In order to keep university students away from terrorism and militancy, they should be involved in sports, cultural practices and creative activities in addition to studies."

The Prime Minister said, "There was a time when there was a clang of weapons in the universities. However, after coming to the Awami League government, there is no clanking of weapons. Terrorism and militancy in the country have been severely suppressed."

Calling upon the Vice-Chancellors to take all kinds of steps to develop students as efficient human resources, the Prime Minister said, "Apart from studies, students should be made suitable for work for the development of the country. Bangladeshi students are very talented. If they are given a little chance, they can bring a higher degree from abroad after completing their university studies."

Advising to build own fund through alumni association, she said, "All universities have alumni association. Through this, they can create their own funds for the development of universities and the implementation of projects for the welfare of students."

Pointing out that the government has given importance to the development of the skills of the youth, the Prime Minister added, "Steps have been taken to ensure that the youth can become entrepreneurs and give jobs to others instead of pursuing jobs after studying."
