OIVS RAB start operation with fingerprint identification technology
Dhaka, March 18: The RAB has started its operations with On-site Identification and Verification System (OIVS), a fingerprint identification technology to help aid its work.
In a recent event in Dhaka's Mirpur, a team of RAB patrolling the streets signalled a CNG autorickshaw driver to come out of the vehicle.
When the driver got out of the CNG, the people in charge of the patrol team took his fingerprints. Immediately, the name, address, blood group and driving license information given in the national identity card along with the picture of the CNG driver floated on the OIVS screen. At that time, the CNG driver looked at the screen with amazement in his eyes.
The Elite Force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4) set up a checkpost with a new technology identification and verification system (OIVS) on the main road in front of the Mirpur office in the capital on Wednesday (March 16th) afternoon. That's what happened there.
Drivers of any vehicle passing in front of the checkpost take fingerprints. Within the moment of taking the impression, all the information of the person taking the fingerprint floated on the OIVS screen.
RAB says that with this technology, six types of information options will come. This includes information on national identity cards, license information, passports and the number of countries they have traveled to and whether there is a case against the person who took the fingerprints.
The patrol team was led by RAB-4 Commander (CO) Additional DIG Md. Mozammel Haque.
He said the identity could be confirmed by scanning the fingerprints of criminals, suspects or unclaimed bodies with the help of the OIVS technology.
RAB official Mozammel further said that the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence are being celebrated. In order to keep the law and order situation under control on this occasion, through the new technology invented by RAB (OIVS), anyone can have instant fingerprint verification of national identity card, license verification, passport or not and what countries he has traveled to and what against him. I also know whether there is a case or not.
If he is a miscreant, it is possible to identify him on the spot. Through this technology, the perpetrators can be easily identified and brought under the law.
The CO of RAB-4 further said that earlier the accused was informed to the concerned police station after his arrest. In this case, he used to say wrong name and address. Now there is no chance to hide. Anyone over the age of 18 can check and sort everything on the spot with their fingerprints.
