Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 1: The Bangladesh Railway Authority has asked for a week to submit a report in the light of the High Court's directives regarding various irregularities and mismanagement including train ticket black market.

In view of the railway's application for time, on Sunday (July 31), the High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat gave time till next Sunday (August 7). Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state in the court on Sunday.

He said that a request was made for a week's time to submit the report on behalf of the Railways. The court fixed the date of next hearing and order on August 7.

The High Court sought a report on July 21 after taking cognizance of Mohiuddin Roni, a student of Dhaka University (DU) with a 6-point demand to stop railway mismanagement. On that day, the High Court ordered the railway to stop taking passengers on the roof of the train. If the taking of passengers on the roof of the train is not stopped, then the court said that action will be taken against those concerned.

Mohiuddin Roni, a student of Theater and Performance Studies department of DU, started a single stand programme at Kamalapur station on July 7 with a 6-point demand to stop railway irregularities, corruption and mismanagement. He is a student of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall of DU.

He sat in a meeting with the railway officials on July 25 last night. There, the Railways assured him to fulfill all his demands. After that, Roni announced the suspension of the programme. However, on Friday (July 29) he held a protest at Rajshahi railway station.
