Rain lashes Dhaka, brings relief from sultry weather

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 3: Hour-long rainfall in Dhaka has brought some relief from sultry weather. However, some parts of the capital had been waterlogged due to the rain for which people had to suffer in the streets.

Although there was no rain on Monday (August 1), Dhaka's sky was covered with clouds almost the whole day, since then the heat started to decrease. But there was discomfort of summer because of humid weather.

The sky of Dhaka was covered with clouds since Tuesday (August 2) morning. As the day progressed, the clouds also increasef in the sky. After 11 am in the capital, it started drizzling. After 1 pm, heavy rain started lashing the city. However, around 2 pm the rain subsided a lot.

In the meantime, various roads in the capital had been waterlogged. Some roads were heavily congested. The Meteorological Department could not immediately confirm the amount of rainfall on Tuesday afternoon.

Due to the inactivity of the south-west monsoon, the desired rain has not been met even in the monsoon season. Mild to moderate heat wave was going on in different parts of the country due to almost rainless conditions for a few days.

Rain has increased in the north, north-eastern and central regions of the country for two days. People got relief from the discomfort of humid weather. But Barisal in the southern part of the country and Khulna in the southwestern part and Chittagong division in the southeastern part of the country are less prone to rain, said meteorologists.

The Meteorological Department in its forecast said that many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and some places in Khulna and Barisal divisions may experience light to moderate rain with gusty winds or thunder in the next 24 hours from 9 am on Tuesday. At the same time, moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of the country.
