Rains, traffic congestion leave commuters frustrated in Dhaka

Dhaka, June 10: Commuters in Dhaka were left frustrated on Wednesday as rains inundated roads, causing traffic to move slower than usual.

On Wednesday (June 9) afternoon, severe traffic jams occurred on some roads in the capital. Again, there were no buses on some roads. On the one hand, traffic jams, on the other hand, the public transport crisis has to be frustrated for the homebound people.

Many who were stranded could not get on the bus even after waiting for hours. Despite all kinds of offices and courts being open, the government has instructed to take half of the passengers in public transport, which has increased the suffering of working people. In the afternoon, most of the bus doors were closed on the road, no bus was picking up passengers in the middle. As a result, the suffering of the waiting passengers increased. Some were forced to either walk home or avail a rickshaw.

The capital's Asadgate, Dhanmondi-27, Dhanmondi-32, Panthapath Signal, Karwan Bazar, Banglamotor, Malibagh, Mouchak, Tejgaon, Kakrail, Shantinagar, Paltan, Gulistan and Motijheel areas experienced severe traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, long traffic jams had been observed from Kuril Biswaroad in the capital to Badda. There was a long traffic jam on the road from Mohakhali to Banani. After crossing the Mohakhali flyover, there was a long queue of vehicles from Jahangir Gate to Vijay Sarani signal. There was not enough public transport on the roads in several areas, including Magbazar, Uttara and Mirpur.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said in a forecast for the next 24 hours at 9 am on Wednesday that light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusts are likely in many parts of the country, including Dhaka. At the same time, there may be scattered moderate to heavy rains in some parts of the country. Day and night temperatures may remain almost unchanged across the country today.
