Rally of Left women demand fulfillment of 11 points

Dhaka, November 28: Left-wing women's organizations have staged a 'women's mass rally' in Shahbag demanding the fulfillment of 11 points, incluidng speedy trial and exemplary punishment of rapists and abusers of women, equal rights of men and women in inheritance, and making misogynistic statements at meetings and gatherings as punishable crimes.

The rally took place in front of the National Museum in Shahbag on Friday afternoon, calling for "strengthening the fight against continued rape, oppression of women and children and injustice across the country".

Lakshmi Chakraborty, convener of the women's cell of the Communist Party of Bangladesh-CPB, presided over the rally and Shampa Basu, general secretary of the Socialist Women's Forum, conducted the rally.

Lakshmi Chakraborty raised 11 demands at the rally.

The demands are- 1) Ensuring exemplary punishment for those involved in continuous rape and violence against women across the country.

2) Military and civilian sexual and social oppression of indigenous women in the hills and plains.

3) As per the direction of the High Court, the anti-violence cell is effective in all government and non-government institutions including educational institutions.

4) Equal rights of men and women should be ensured in inheritance of property. Uniform Civil Code introduced. Full approval and implementation of the Sido Charter by signing Sections 2 and 18-1 (c) of the Sido Charter to Bangladesh. Abolish all laws and practices that discriminate against women.

5) In case of rape case, section 172-155 (4) of the Evidence Act is abolished and the DNA Act of the case is effective in case of evidence.

6) Criminal and gender abuse cases of crime science and gender experts are settled quickly.

7) During the investigation, the victim should be stopped from mental harassment and the legal and social security of the victim should be ensured.

8) Anti-constitutional statements against women are considered as a punishable offense in all kinds of meetings and gatherings, including literature, dramas, movies and advertisements.

9) To take effective role in stopping drugs all over the country.

10) Avoid any articles, articles, costumes, pictures, instructions and word choices that are insulting and discriminatory towards women in the textbook and;

11) Attempts to cover up allegations of rape through rural arbitration should be considered as a punishable offense.
