Dhaka, January 16, 2022: As a result of various steps taken by the Awami League government, Rangpur, which was once a famine or food crisis, has now become a surplus food zone. This was stated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed 'Rangpur Divisional Headquarters Complex Bhaban' on Sunday (January 18).

The Prime Minister joined the video conference from Ganobhaban at the Multipurpose Hall of Rangpur Divisional Headquarters Complex.

The Prime Minister said, "Awami League has come to the government and removed the manga in Rangpur region. In 2010 we divided Rangpur. Now Rangpur has become a surplus food zone. At one time he would die for lack of food."

"When people saw it, it looked like a living skeleton was walking. I saw this situation with my own eyes. By the grace of Allah, that situation is no more. We have greatly improved the communication system there. The famine is over, but there is food surplus," she said.

She said, "The development that has taken place in Rangpur in the last 13 years has never happened before. For a long time the people of Rangpur were in power. But the fate of the people of Rangpur has not changed much. But we have started the bank account program at 10 rupees with Rangpur division. '

The Prime Minister said, "All development depends on the thinking of the government. The Awami League is working for the development of the people following the path of the father of the nation. We have decided that not a single person will have food. Will not be landless. There were more landless people in Rangpur. We gave them land and houses. I would urge everyone not to be landless anywhere in the country. If necessary, we will buy land and build a house. It will alleviate our poverty."

She said, "We have done digital Bangladesh, which has further increased the employment opportunities of the people." You know, Dr. Mr. Wazed was a nuclear scientist. He was most vocal in building nuclear power plants. Today we are building that Rooppur nuclear power plant. I hope to supply electricity from there by 2024. North Bengal will benefit the most from this. We want the country to be more developed and move forward. "

The Prime Minister said, ‘Education rate was low in this region (Rangpur). I have done Agricultural University in Kurigram and Aviation and Aero Space University in Lalmonirhat. I have done a training center called Begum Rokeya in Rangpur. I did it in the name of Rangpur University Begum Rokeya. He was the first to take the initiative in education, so we got some educational opportunities. There are medical colleges in every district of this region.'

Senior Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration KM Ali Azam and Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahab Miah spoke on the occasion.
