Recommendations for identification of persons of third gender through medical examination

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 23: The Parliamentary Standing Committee has recommended issuing identity cards (ID cards) to real third-gender individuals through a medical examination. At the same time, it is recommended to meet with the third gender community and human rights commission to take necessary measures regarding them.

This recommendation was made in the 22nd meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Social Welfare at Sangsad Bhawan on Thursday (August 22). Chairman of the committee Rashed Khan Menon chaired the meeting and committee members Md. Shibli Sadiq, Badruddoza Md. Farhad Hossain, Arma Dutta, Shabnam Jahan, and Kazi Kaniz Sultana participated in the meeting. State Minister of Social Welfare by special invitation. Ashraf Ali Khan Khosrow attended the meeting.

In the meeting, the progress of implementation of the decisions taken in the 21st meeting was discussed. The steps taken for them under the 'Bangladesh Marginalized People's Quality of Life Development Project' managed by the Department of Social Services and the development of the Council in light of the Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Act-2018, the rules and regulations, and the Council's employee employment regulations were discussed in detail.

The committee also recommends the Ministry to take initiative to build the houses of the Prime Minister's Asharyan Project as per the design and budget to bring the cost of sustainable housing to a reasonable level to improve the quality of life of the tea workers.

Besides, the parliamentary committee recommended to expand the activities of the 'Bangladesh Marginal People's Quality of Life Improvement Project' run by the Department of Social Services.
