Dhaka, March 23: The Prime Minister of Bhutan Dr. Lotay Tshering has arrived in Dhaka on a three-day state visit. The chartered plane carrying him landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 10 am and he was welcomed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and given a red carpet reception.

He came to Dhaka to attend the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence.

Apart from paying homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has organized a cultural program and dinner at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in honor of Dr. Tshering at 7.30 pm.

The Prime Minister of Bhutan will be present as a guest on the 7th day of the 10-day Mujib Year celebrations at the National Parade Ground on Wednesday afternoon.

During the great war of liberation of Bangladesh, Bhutan recognized Bangladesh as the first country in the world on 6 December 1971. This marked the beginning of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Bangladesh was the first country to sign a preferential trade agreement with Bhutan recently.

The Prime Minister of Bhutan visited the National Memorial in Savar at 10:36 am on Tuesday (March 23). After paying homage to the heroic martyrs of the liberation war, he signed the inspection book and planted a tree.

The Prime Minister of Bhutan left the National Memorial at 10:50 am. The road from Dhaka to Savar was covered with tight security around the Bhutanese Prime Minister's movement. The Dhaka-Aricha highway was closed to the public at that time.
