Dhaka, April 5: Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, the mayor Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), said that the DSCC had declared Bangbazar hazardous four years ago.

He said, Bangbazar market was declared hazardous by the corporation in 2019. Then the initiative to construct a new building was taken. But at that time the market association filed a writ in the High Court seeking a stay on the construction of the new building and the High Court granted the stay. The City Corporation had nothing to do with it. He said these in a press conference at Dhaka South City Corporation office Nagar Bhavan on Tuesday afternoon.

State Minister for Relief and Disaster Management Md. Enamur Rahman was present at the press conference. At this time, the State Minister for Relief and Disaster Management said that 5,000 small traders have been affected by the fire today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself is overseeing this accident.

Just a day before the incident, on Monday 3 April, the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense declared Bangabazar Market as very dangerous in terms of fire safety. The announcement was hung in the form of a banner in front of the market by the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense to warn the general public about this.

It was written in the banner, Bangabazar complex is very dangerous in terms of fire safety, so all concerned are requested to be careful. Fire Service Headquarters Senior Station Officer (Media Cell) Md. Shahjahan Shikder said this.

In this regard, Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Department (Operation and Maintenance) Major AKM Shakeel Newaz said, the warning program has been started with Bangbazar Market. The continuity of this activity will be continued in all the markets, residential buildings, commercial buildings, industrial establishments, which have been identified as risky buildings in the survey conducted by us and have not yet been taken to mitigate the risk.

He said that fire service and civil defense attach utmost importance to ensuring the safety of people's lives. For this reason, this program will continue in all establishments where life is at risk.
