Robbery Robbery in three banks including Sonali Bank in Bandarban
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 3 April 2024: Less than 24 hours after the robbery of Sonali Bank in Ruma Upazila of Bandarban, two more bank robberies took place in Thanchi.
The incident of robbery took place at Sonali and Krishi Bank branches in Thanchi market area on Wednesday afternoon. At around 1 PM, armed terrorist groups of Pahar entered the Thanchi Bazaar and attacked Sonali and Krishi Bank. At that time, when blank shots were fired in the market area, everyone started running away in panic.
Eyewitnesses said that the terrorists robbed two banks and kidnapped the manager of Sonali Bank. Meanwhile, they shot indiscriminately and fled from the spot. Since this incident, there is panic in the public mind. Confirming the truth of the incident, Thanchi upazila executive officer Mamun said that in the morning, a group of armed terrorists attacked Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank of the upazila separately. At that time, the officers and employees of the bank were taken hostage and looted Tk 15 lakh from Senali Bank and Tk 2 lakh 45 thousand from Krishi Bank. They fired blank shots and spread panic in Thanchi Bazar and surrounding areas. But I can't say anything about who is involved. At present, police and BGB members of law and order forces are on patrol in the upazila.
Superintendent of Police Saikat Shaheen said, the terrorists looted 8 Chinese rifles, 10 weapons including 2 SMGs and 380 rounds of ammunition, 4 short guns of Ansar, 14 weapons including 35 rounds of ammunition. But whoever did the crime team will actually investigate with finger prints.
