Dhaka, October 22: The death toll in the Rohingya camp firing in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya has increased to six. At least 11 people were injured in the incident. Initially, the two groups clashed, but later it was reported that an armed terrorist group of 8 to 10 people came and shot at the worshipers in the mosque and fled. The police initially said seven people were killed in the incident but later reported six fatalities.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday (October 22) at Rohingya Camp No. 18 in Ukhia. Members of the 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested a man named Mujibur Rahman with weapons in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Idris, 32, of Balukhali-2 in Ukhia; Ibrahim Hossain (22) of Balukhali-1; Azizul Haque (26), son of Basunda Nurul Islam of H block of Camp No. 18; Abul Hossain's son Md. Amin (32); Nurul Alam alias Halim (45), son of Mohammad Nabi; and Hamid Ullah, 55, son of Rahim Ullah.

According to multiple reliable sources, an armed group of 8/10 people opened fire and attacked the worshipers at the Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama Al-Islamia Madrasa Mosque in Ukhia Rohingya Camp-18 at around 4:15 am on Friday. No one could get out of the mosque as there was gunfire from all sides. APBn reported that four people died on the spot and two more died after being taken to hospital.

Abdul Matlab, a boatman from Camp 17, told Dhaka Post that he woke up and was going to the mosque. "The sound of gunfire was coming to my ears. At one point, everyone was running out of the house. I also moved to the back. Later I saw many people lying there in a bloody state. They were basically praying. We do not know who or what attacked."

An official of APBn's Mainarghona camp, who did not want to be named, told the Dhaka Post that there were only bullet marks around the madrassa and mosque. "The tin sheet has been cut with a machete. We also found parts of the severed fingers of many worshipers at the scene."
