Rohingyas of Bhasanchar demand Tk 5,000 monthly allowance and standard ration

Dhaka, June 1: Rohingyas have staged a demonstration in Noakhali's Bhasanchar demanding various facilities. Their demands include quality rations and monthly allowance for five thousand takas. They staged a protest in front of a 14-member delegation, including two assistant high commissioners of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), around 11am on Monday (May 31).

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhasanchar Police Station Md Mahe Alam said the Rohingyas staged the protest demanding various facilities.

On Monday morning, a 14-member delegation, including UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Rauf Mazao and Gillian Triggs, visited Bhasanchar to monitor Rohingya facilities, locals said.

This is the first time a UNHCR delegation visited Bhasanchar. The Rohingyas protested when they came to Bhasanchar to observe the facilities. The Rohingyas of Bhasanchar are demanding five thousand takas every month. They also demanded quality rations, employment and adequate medical care.

District Superintendent of Police Md Alamgir Hossain said Rohingyas were demanding Tk 5,000 in cash every month. They also demanded quality rations, employment and adequate medical care. They are even expressing reluctance to stay there by making various demands.
