Sheikh Hasina Rooppur nuclear power plant may be inaugurated in September: Putin may attend the ceremony
Dhaka, 25 June 2023 : Rooppur nuclear power plant may be inaugurated next September.
Russian President Vladimir Putin can also join the video conference with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the opening ceremony.
Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman gave this information at the opening ceremony of the country's first smartphone-based 'Surya Bidyut' app discovered by the Bangladesh Council of Science and Industrial Research (BCSIR) on Saturday, June 24.
The minister said, the whole country has come under the benefit of 100% electrification. When the demand increases, sometimes there is a crisis, when people suffer. The government also suffers from this. This problem was caused by the global war situation. Bangladesh has overcome that problem to a large extent.' Earlier, the minister inaugurated the smartphone app 'Surya Vidyut' developed by BCSIR for solar power users, which can be downloaded and used from Google Play Store within the next 72 hours.
The Russian assisted Rooppur nuclear power plant will have two units of 1,200 MW capacity. The first of these will start production in September. The second unit is scheduled to go into production next year.
The Chairman of BCSIR said on the occasion that through this app, consumers can do all the maintenance including installation of solar power technology.
