Rowshan Ershad Rowshan welcomes election schedule
Dhaka, Nov 16: Jatiya Party's main sponsor and leader of opposition in Jatiya Sangsad Rowshan Ershad welcomed the announced schedule in view of the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections.
In a statement on Wednesday, she said, "According to the announced schedule, it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct the 12th National Assembly elections in a free, fair and impartial manner." She expressed optimism and said that all the related authorities including the Election Commission will fulfill the duties assigned to them with devotion.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule of the national elections in an address to the nation from Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon at 7 pm. According to the announced schedule, the general election of the 12th National Parliament will be held on 7th January 2024 in 300 seats every Sunday. Recruitment of 66 Returning Officers and 592 Assistant Returning Officers has been finalised.
Regarding the schedule, the CEC said in the speech, the last date for submission of nomination papers is November 30, nomination papers will be selected from December 1 to 4, appeals against the order of the returning officer will be filed and disposed of in the commission from December 6 to 15. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 17. The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18.
The CEC also said that the election campaign will continue from December 18 to January 5, 2024 at 8 am.
