Rule to grant bail to Mirza Fakhrul

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 8 December 2023: The High Court has issued a ruling seeking to know why BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir should not be granted bail in the case filed by the police regarding the attack on the residence of the Chief Justice during the clash with BNP leaders and activists during the General Assembly on October 28.

Justice Md Salim and Justice Shahed Nooruddin's High Court bench issued the ruling on Thursday. The government has been asked to respond to the rule within a week. Senior lawyer Zainul Abedin heard the bail application in the court.

Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Advocate Fazlur Rahman Khan, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Barrister Badruddoza Badal, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Barrister Kaiser, Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal and Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon were also present in the court on behalf of Mirza Fakhrul. On the other hand, Deputy Attorney General BM Rafale heard the state.

Earlier on Monday, October 28, the bail hearing of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the case of the attack on the residence of the Chief Justice during the clash with the BNP leaders and activists was fixed today. On December 3, Mirza Fakhrul Islam applied for bail in Alamgir High Court in this case. Earlier on November 22, the lower court denied his bail. Apart from this, Mirza Fakhrul's lawyer Advocate Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah filed a bail application in the same court on November 2.

Apart from Mirza Fakhrul, 59 leaders and activists including Mirza Abbas, a member of the party's standing committee, were accused in the case filed by the police at Ramna police station on October 28.
