Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 25: Russia's ambassador to Dhaka, Alexander Mantitsky, said Moscow is grateful that Bangladesh has maintained its neutrality despite the pressure from outside before the vote in the UN emergency session.

Bangladesh abstained from voting against Russia in a resolution of the UN General Assembly on March 2. In this context, the ambassador said this.

He was speaking to reporters at a press conference hosted by the Russian embassy on Thursday (March 24) morning. Speaking at a press conference a month after Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine, the ambassador said the two countries were discussing various options such as barter trade as well as taking advantage of third country banking to continue trade and commerce with Bangladesh.

Regarding the Rooppur nuclear power plant, he said, "We understand that Bangladesh has concerns about the Rooppur nuclear power plant due to the current situation. So far all the work is progressing on time. Therefore, it will be in accordance with the earlier deadline for completion of the project."

Regarding the transaction, he said that last week the Bangladesh embassy in Moscow made a proposal on whether to consider barter trade (barter in goods, also known as barter or counter trade). All I can say is that the two countries are discussing options such as barter, exchange of currency (between ruble and taka) with one country and use of third country banks in the interest of continuing trade and transactions.

He spoke in support of the US Alliance, but said that maintaining some independence was important for Russia. The price of the commodity has gone up here due to the fear among the middlemen and some media people about the increased demand.

The ambassador said that Russia's economy will not collapse because of the economic sanctions. Russia has moved forward by tackling the crisis at various stages of its history. Russia will deal with the current situation well and turn around.
