Russian Foreign Minister expresses regret

Dhaka, November 22: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen had a courtesy phone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov. Sergey Lavrov expressed his regret for not being able to come to Dhaka. They had a phone conversation on Monday (November 21). This information was informed in a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on November 23 to attend the Indian Ocean Cooperation Alliance (IORA) ministerial meeting. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov expressed his regret over the phone for not being able to come to Dhaka due to schedule complications and expressed his intention to come to Bangladesh very soon.

During the telephone conversation, the two ministers shed light on the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Russia and expressed their desire to take these relations to greater heights.

Foreign Minister Dr. Momen highlighted the role of the Soviet Union in Bangladesh's independence war and said that Bangladesh will always remember the role of the Soviet Union with gratitude. Momen sought the cooperation of the Russian Foreign Minister to take the Rohingya refugees who have taken refuge in Bangladesh back to Myanmar. In this context, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov assured to talk with Myanmar.

Among other things, the two ministers also talked about the cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia in the United Nations and other international organizations.

Russian Foreign Minister congratulated Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Dr. Momen thanked Russia for supporting Bangladesh in the construction of nuclear power plant and invited Russian President Putin to visit Bangladesh on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
