Saju, Pinku declared as Awami League candidates for by-polls in two seats

Dhaka, Oct 9: Awami League has nominated Principal Md. Shahjahan Alam Saju in the by-election of Brahmanbaria-2 parliamentary seat and Golam Farooq Pinku in the by-election of Lakhhipur-3 seat.

This decision was taken at the Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board meeting at Ganobhaban in the capital on Sunday evening. It was presided over by Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

Principal Md. Shahjahan Alam Saju was the convenor and founding president of Islami University Chhatra League. He is also serving as Secretary of Ministry of Education's Private Educational Institution Teachers' Employee Welfare Trust and General Secretary of Swadhinta Vaishika Parishad (SWASHIP). On the other hand, Mohammad Golam Farooq Pingku is the president of district Awami League.

The by-elections for these two vacant seats of the 11th National Assembly will be held on November 5. As per the schedule, last date for submission of nomination papers is October 11 and scrutiny is October 12.

On October 1, Parliament Secretariat declared these two seats vacant. MP Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuya, elected as an independent in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency and MP AKM Shahjahan Kamal, elected from Bangladesh Awami League in Lakshmipur-3 constituency, died in the early hours of September 30 at a hospital in the capital. It leaves two seats vacant.
