Dhaka, Dec 7: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that they had no discussion with Jatiya Party (JaPa) about seat sharing in the 12th parliamentary elections.

He said, “Political discussion was the key. I don't know about seat sharing."

He said this at a briefing at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi on Thursday (December 7).

Quader said, "To make the elections free, fair and peaceful, there was a discussion about countering sabotage and covert attacks in coordination with the election-oriented parties. That was the crux of our discussion."

On the other hand, Jatiya Party Secretary General Md. Mujibul Haque Chunnu said that the main opposition party in the parliament, JaPa, has received assurances from the ruling party regarding the smooth conduct of the 12th National Assembly elections.

Chunnu said, "Awami League as the ruling party has assured us to make the election fair and impartial. They have promised not to harass, attack and threaten our leaders and workers unnecessarily during the election. We are quite convinced by their assurances. The rest will be understood in future proceedings.”

Chunnu said there was no discussion with Awami League about seat distribution.

“We did not talk about seat distribution. There doesn't even seem to be a need," he added.

JaPa Secretary General said that Wednesday's meeting with Awami League was held behind closed doors so that no misleading information is spread.
