Dhaka, Feb 12: On Sunday evening, the moon of the month of Shaban was seen in the sky of the country. Counting of the month of Shaban begins today (Monday, February 12). According to that, the Holy Shab e-Barat will be celebrated on Sunday (February 25).

This decision was taken at the meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the meeting hall of Islamic Foundation in Baitul Mukarram on Sunday evening. It was presided over by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs M. A. Awal Hawlader.

The Additional Secretary told the meeting that according to the information received from all district administrations, Islamic Foundation head office, divisional and district offices, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Space Research and Remote Sensing Center, the moon of Shaban month of 1445 Hijri was seen in the sky of Bangladesh on Sunday.

Lailatul Barat or Shab e-Barat is celebrated on the 15th night of the month of Shaban (14 nights before the day of Shaban). As such, the night before the next 25th February (Sunday) is Shab e-Barat night.

The day after Shab e-Barat is a public holiday in Bangladesh by executive order. This holiday falls on February 26 (Monday).

The holy night of Shab e-Barat is spent by Muslims of different countries including Bangladesh through Nafal Namaz, Quran recitation and Ibadat Bandegi. At the end of the month of Shaban, the month of Ramadan begins with the joyous celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.
