Sheikh Hasina expresses grief over death of Indian PM Narendra Modi's mother

Dhaka, December 31: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has condoled the death of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heera Ben Modi. This information was confirmed by the Prime Minister's Press Wing on Friday (December 30) evening.

Earlier on Thursday (December 29), Modi's mother died at the age of 99 in a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. She was ill for a long time.

Confirming the death of his mother, Narendra Modi said in a post on social media that a glorious century rests at the feet of God.

He continued, "For a glorious century resting at God's feet, Mother I have always experienced the trinity, which includes the journey of an ascetic and a life committed to the symbols and values of the selfless Karma Yogi."

Narendra Modi was supposed to come to the state of West Bengal to inaugurate some projects, but he rushed to Gujarat after receiving news of his mother's death. Prime Minister Modi met his mother for the last time at her home during the assembly elections in Gujarat on December 4. Heera Ben lived with Modi's younger brother and family. On her death, the country's political figures as well as ministers expressed grief on social media. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condoled.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed condolences.
