Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said after the death of Bangabandhu an attempt was made to erase his name.

He made the remarks at a discussion meeting of the Awami League on the occasion of Bangabandhu's 101st birth anniversary at the party's central office on Sunday (March 21). The Prime Minister joined via video conference from Ganobhaban.

Referring to the August 15 tragedy, Sheikh Hasina said, "After the assassination of Bangabandhu, every effort has been made to erase his name from history." The proclamation of independence was made. The hero of freedom was made to stand. Attempts have been made to change history. Such an environment was created that even his (Bangabandhu's) name could not be taken. The freedom fighters did not even dare to say 'I have waged a war of liberation'. They lost that courage. Because then it would have been tortured to say it. Those who illegally flattered the occupiers of power could say anything. '

"It was forbidden to tell the truth," he said. The historic speech of March 7, through which Bangabandhu transformed the non-cooperation movement into an armed revolution, was banned.

Expressing gratitude to the party and the people at the time, Bangabandhu's eldest daughter said, "I am grateful to the people of Bangladesh and also to the leaders and workers of my party." Because they voted, we are in power today. Due to which I am able to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of independence nationally, I am celebrating through various programs. Many local and foreign guests, heads of state and government have come and are coming on this occasion. Many are sending messages. '

The Prime Minister said, "The British have destroyed the self-esteem of the people of this country and made them poor. The Father of the Nation has come to make the people of this country self-respecting, self-reliant and self-reliant. We are also following in his footsteps. I am doing what he has done. There was a black chapter from ’75 to ’96, another black chapter from 2001 to 2006.

The Prime Minister thanked all concerned including the Agricultural Institute for making 'Bangabandhu in the field of crops' and putting it in the Guinness Book of World Records. "Especially thanks to the farmer who did it," he said. He has shown us the way. We have to repay the blood debt of the father of the nation with a smile on the face of the peasants and hardworking people. And that has to be done with sincerity. Inshallah we can do that. '
