Dhaka, Oct 10, 2021: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has termed electricity as the key to the country's development and said her government would set up another nuclear power plant in the southern part of the country to meet the country's growing demand for electricity.

"We will build another power plant," he said. My desire is to cross the Padma, that is, in the south.

If we could build another nuclear power plant here, we would have no shortage of electricity. " At the same time, he warned everyone not to let any vultures fall on Bangladesh and for Bangladesh's progress and development to move forward at an irresistible pace.

The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the installation of Reactor Pressure Vessel (RNPP-Nuclear Reactor) at Rooppur in Pashna's Ishradi Upazila. He recalled Russia's cooperation in launching Bangabandhu Satellite-1 and thanked them and said, "We have also taken initiative to build Bangabandhu Satellite-2." And after this power plant is done, we are looking for a place in the south. Although it is very difficult to find hard soil in the south.

Sheikh Hasina said, we are surveying different aspects and different places, we will do another power plant. "We are generating diversified electricity so that people can benefit from it and continue to do so," he said.

Alexei Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, was the special guest speaker at the inaugural ceremony. Science and Technology Secretary Ziaul Hasan delivered the welcome address. Project Director and nuclear scientist. Md. Shawkat Akbar was connected by video conference from RNPP while installing the main instrument reactor pressure vessel of the power plant.

The Prime Minister said, "I think the electricity from this power plant will reach every house." We have already started the construction of the transmission line. Work on our first unit will begin in 2023 and the second unit in 2024. We believe that this will further accelerate the socio-economic development of the people of Bangladesh.

Referring to the celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation and the golden jubilee of independence, he said, "At this time, we were able to move forward with the work on this nuclear power plant, especially the reactor pressure vessel we installed." Which is really a great honor for us. Besides, we want to build this developing Bangladesh as a developed and prosperous country by 2041.
