Dhaka: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina turned 74 on Monday

She was born on this day in 1948 in a secluded village of Tungipara in Gopalganj.

Sheikh Hasina, the first child of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata.

A visionary of building a digitally and economically prosperous Bangladesh, the leader organized the party through a long struggle after taking over the leadership of the Awami League in 1981 and was able to lead the party for the first three terms in 1996 and 2008.

Under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has become a role model of development in the world today.

Sustainable economic growth, food self-sufficiency, women's empowerment, agriculture, education, health, rural infrastructure, communications, energy and power, trade, ICT and SME have all achieved great success.

Besides, she has achieved unimaginable success in many areas of national life including trial of war criminals, prevention of militancy, trial of Bangabandhu's self-confessed murderers, execution of historic peace agreement in Chittagong Hill Tracts, recognition of 21st February International Mother Language Day.


The steps taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the coronavirus epidemic have been praised in the international arena including the United Nations, the World Economic Forum, the World Health Organization and the US-based magazine Forbes.

She has taken a number of steps to ensure medical care in the Corona situation, starting with the protection of human health and has been able to control the spread of Corona epidemic. At the same time, he has taken effective steps to save the livelihood and economy of the poor people along with providing relief assistance.

She announced timely incentive packages in economic sectors including agriculture and industry to maintain the economic dynamism of the country, which is considered as a role model in the world economy. As a result, Bangladesh's GDP growth is in a stronger position than other countries, according to a report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Sheikh Hasina, the beloved granddaughter of Dada Sheikh Lutfar Rahman and Dadi Sahera Khatun, spent her childhood and adolescence in Tungipara, a village on the banks of the Madhumati River.

They are five brothers and sisters including Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, Sheikh Rehana and Sheikh Russell.

At present no one is alive except Sheikh Hasina and Rehana. On the night of 15 August 1975, all including Bangabandhu and Bangamata were killed by the bullets of the assassins.


She has been in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly at this time of year since taking office in 2009. Leaders and activists used to celebrate his birthday at that time. But this time she is staying in the country due to coronavirus. In the meantime, Sheikh Hasina has instructed the leaders and workers not to celebrate the birthday.
